The Wilmington Municipal Golf Course was designed by Donald Ross in 1926 to provide the public with a quality, championship 18 hole golf course at affordable prices. The course hosts both men's and women's City Championships.
In 1989 the golf course bunkers were restored and renovated to complete the visions Donald J. Ross began in 1926. In 2002, the course was named one of the top 10 public access golf courses in North Carolina by Golf Week Magazine.

The recent improvements to the Municipal Golf Course:
#8 GREEN
The #8 green was enlarged by 30% and sodded with Tifeagle on Friday, June 23rd. The green is now back to the original design size and shape. We also modified the approach area in front of the green and sodded. Additionally, the bunker faces were reshaped and sodded. The work is now complete.
PRACTICE AREA
The practice area adjacent to #9 has been completed and is now open. We have a green and two bunkers. This area is intended to be a short game practice area (chipping, pitching, and greenside bunker play). The acreage surrounding the practice green was shaped and sprigged with 419 bermuda. The green was sprigged with Tifeagle. Sprigging requires a longer grow-in time than sodding. There will be no fee for use as it is intended to be an additional amenity for our patrons.
CLUBHOUSE IMPROVEMENTS

Remodeling work has begun on the men's restroom and was completed in July and the women's room in September. New carpet and a pro shop counter were also installed. A wall was knocked down in old storage room to create new food/beverage area.
